Who Can Get a Visa for Private and Tourist Visits in Denmark?

If the authorities are in doubt as to whether you will return home or leave the Schengen area before your visa expires, or whether you will comply with the conditions of your visa, they will investigate your case further. This assessment depends on which of the five main groups of visa-required countries you belong to.
The five main groups
The visa-required countries are divided into five main groups based on a general assessment of the risk that people from these countries will not leave the Schengen area before their visa expires.
Individual assessment
Although the countries are divided into groups, each application is assessed individually. The division is only indicative. If you have previously been granted a visa to the Schengen area and have complied with the conditions, it can have a positive impact on your application. The same applies if there are special circumstances for your visit, such as visiting a seriously ill person or attending a funeral.
When can you be rejected?
Regardless of which main group you belong to, the immigration authorities can reject your visa application if they assess that there is a risk of:
- You taking up permanent or long-term residence in Denmark or other Schengen countries.
- You posing a security risk.
Decisions on visas are made in accordance with the rules in the EU Visa Code, the Visa Executive Order and the guidelines in the Visa Guide.
