VisaGuiden is your trusted partner, helping you navigate the rules and ensure your application is handled quickly and efficiently!

What is Educational Attachment?

Educational Attachment is a scheme that allows you to apply for a residence permit if you are enrolled in a program that could lead to a job on one of Denmark’s positive lists – either for skilled workers or those with higher education. This means that even if your previous residence permit has expired, you can stay in the country and complete your education.

But it doesn’t stop there. Once you’ve completed your studies, you can receive a 6-month residence permit to find a relevant job in Denmark. This scheme is a fantastic opportunity for you to build a career and a life in Denmark.

Who Can Apply for a Residence Permit Based on Educational Attachment?

You can apply for a residence permit based on Educational Attachment if your previous residence permit has been denied an extension or revoked. The following groups are particularly eligible to apply:

  • Refugee status: If you had a residence permit as a convention refugee, under protection status, or temporary protection, and your permit has not been extended, you can still apply based on Educational Attachment if you are enrolled in a program.
  • Family reunification: If your residence permit through family reunification has been revoked but you are studying in Denmark, you can apply for a permit based on your education.
  • Humanitarian residence permits: If you have been living in Denmark for humanitarian reasons or as an unaccompanied minor, you can apply for a residence permit as long as you are enrolled in a relevant educational program.
  • Accompanying family members: If you have had a residence permit as a family member of a foreign worker, student, or green card holder, you can also apply based on Educational Attachment.
  • Individuals from Afghanistan and Ukraine: If you have had residence in Denmark under special laws for those who assisted Danish authorities in Afghanistan, or you are displaced from Ukraine, you can apply for residence based on your education.
